Selecting general-purpose, compute or memory cloud instances

Choose an instance family around the resource that limits your application. General-purpose configurations balance resources; compute-oriented options prioritise processing, while memory-oriented options provide a different RAM-to-CPU ratio. Confirm the exact specifications of the selected offer.

Before choosing a family

  • Measure CPU, memory and storage use at normal and peak load, and identify jobs that compete for resources.
  • Check whether your application licence recognises virtual CPUs, physical cores or another unit.
  • Confirm how storage is provided and whether the instance includes enough persistent space for your application.
  • Plan growth and maintenance: establish whether resizing is supported for the exact instance and whether a restart or migration will be needed.

Send the workload profile and preferred region with your request. We will confirm availability and configuration. Do not assume that a vCPU provides identical performance across all processor generations or that every family supports the same resize path.
